Sea Star50 viewsUp close, a Sea Star
xmas_tree_worm.jpg
Feather Duster Worm37 viewsThose orange things are Feather Duster Worms. Don't ask me why they look very un-wormlike. They burrow deep inside tubes and are very sensitive to movement.
cleaner_wrasse.jpg
Cleaner Wrasse37 viewsThe blue and yellow fish on the right is a Cleaner Wrasse. It "services" other fish, even big mean predators like sharks, by eating parasites and dead skin off other fish. It's fun to watch the activity in cleaning stations. Fish customers line up and wait for their turn (fish have manners too!). They even open their mouths so the Cleaner Wrasse could get inside and pick their teeth. Amazingly, Cleaner Wrasse never get bitten by this daring deed.

Divers134 viewsThat's me, Jessica and Elson.
two_corals.jpg
Two Corals33 viewsThe green corals look like branches of the yellow Feather Star, but they are actually two separate animals just hanging out together.
staghorn_bouquet.jpg
Staghorn Corals38 viewsThese Staghorn Corals look like a bouquet wrapped by another thin paper-like coral. Actually, I think the thin coral is trying to smother the Staghorn. Corals compete for space and food and will kill encroaching neighbors. It's a tough life.
nudi_dorid.jpg
Sea Slug Chromodoris36 viewsThis is a dorid. I like watching them when they raise their "heads" like this.
clownfish_anemone.jpg
Clownfish and Anemone42 viewsClownfish nestled in its Anemone home. Clownfish are quite feisty and will defend its home against intruders thousands of times its size. My mask has been bumped repeatedly by a Clownfish when I peered too close to it.
sea_plume.jpg
Sea Plume29 viewsSea Plume, usually seen in wrecks. The polyps look like bird feathers, maybe that's why it's called "plume".
sea_pen.jpg
Sea Pen28 viewsSea Pen. This animal comes out at night or when ambient light is not too bright.
barrel_sponge.jpg
Barrel Sponge32 viewsRidges and spikes of a Barrel Sponge. I read somewhere that sponges are hardy animals. You could put it in a blender, puree it, and when you dump it back into the sea it will regeneate itself.
nudi_egg.jpg
Seaslug Eggs38 viewsUp close, egg ribbon of a sea slug
mushroom_coral.jpg
Mushroom Coral34 viewsMushroom Coral, polyps out while the animal is feeding

Cup Coral39 viewsCup Coral with polyps out, which means the animal is feeding. This type of coral feeds at night or during strong currents.
