Memory Cards

understanding how they work.

Memory Card Speed - Rated X

The X rating is based on how many times faster a given CF memory card can store data as compared to a single speed CD-ROM (150KB/s). A 10x CF memory card should be able to move data at a brisk 1.5MB/s peak rate, while a 50x card should be able to shift 7.5MB/s.

With the megapixel count of cameras increasing every year, the faster data can be written to a memory card, the faster the photographer can take another picture. The easier it is to capture that "special moment".
Is Faster Better?
A memory card with a speed rating faster than camera write speed will most likely not give you any speed increase in image capture and processing.
