Make your Mobile Phone a Portable Wifi Hotspot using HSDPA/UMTS/3G/EDGE Signal.

April 23, 2008

I just discoverd WalkingHotSpot browsing thru philmug.ph

What does it do? It transforms your HSDPA/UMTS/3G/ EDGE smartphone into a wifi hotspot that you can connect multiple devices like laptops, MP3 Players, Gaming, VOIP Phones etc.) Connect to the Internet on the Go from anywhere there is service provided by your Network. Check emails or browse thru the net!

With the internet access rates of P5 pesos for 15 minutes for globe or P10 pesos for 30 minutes for smart it makes it easier to go mobile with your connection.

Does it Work? Yup.. Tried it on my globe.. but only connected my laptop since the connection was slow.

Here is the screen capture.. i named my hotspot wifi2go! notice the 2 connections active? on the left you see the phone connecting to edge and on the right side you see the wifi signal logo.

My only prayer now is that globe and smart offer faster mobile internet.. globe started out ok.. now they suck.. and does smart 3G!

Truphone extends Free VOIP Calls to 40 Countries til End of Feb!

Free Calls Around the World

Ive been using truphone for almost a year now and loving it! Their free service was supposed to end Dec 31, 2007 but they extend the free calls again til end of Feb! Yahoo! I should have posted this earlier but was busy over the season.. well here it is..

First out of the sack of presents is the extension of free Truphone calling to landlines (and some cellphones) in 40 countries until the end of February. Now there’s no excuse not to call all your relatives over the holidays ;-D

Secondly, if you’ve been lucky enough to get a new phone, we’re pleased to confirm our support for the Nokia E51, N81, N81 8GB, N82 and N95 8GB. Just text ‘tru’ to +44 7624 000 000.

Thank you for all your custom and support in 2007. We’ve worked hard to build a new type of phone company for the internet age and have launched SMS over IP, calls over 3G, multi-SIM support for travellers and our brand new application for Facebook®.

And 2008 should be even better. We’ve got all kinds of goodies bubbling away in the labs, fizzing next to some rather peculiar VoIP-enabled test tubes, but we’ll leave news of those for now.

Instead, put your feet up, enjoy a snack and we wish you a happy, peaceful holiday for you and your family.
