Nikon D60 vs Nikon D40x – Which one is right for you?
a spin off from our ealier post about d80 vs d60 vs d40x
Now comes the simple comparison of the Nikon D60 and the Nikon D40x, in my earlier post, i mentioned that the D60 seemed more like a upgrade of the D40x, a polished version.. having the same 10.2 MP count, same sensor, same ISO sensitivity, storage media.. here is the difference, the D60 has the dust sensor cleaning unit, white balance bracketing, and improved LCD display.
- The D60 comes with a VR Kit Lens.
- D60 has an orientation sensor
- the D60 sports a wider viewfider to block out the flare.
- notice the dials below the d60 is made out of metal while the d40x is still plastic
The Bonus feature of the D60, is that it has the Stop-Motion Movie Feature!
The D60 wasnt built from scratch.. it adapted the best features on the D40x and added a few more neat features like the kit lens thats already VR, the Stop Motion Movie Maker, the better viewfinder, orientation sensor, white balance bracketing and the dust sensor cleaning unit!
Is it worth it? yes if you are looking to upgrade to a newer model, skip the d40x and jump to the Nikon D60… if you are coming from the D40x, i dont think its worth the move to upgrade for features that are not that significant a jump from the D40X.. we are into photography and not movie making!

Here is a wish list of Cameras you may want to purchase this Christmas.. give yourselves a break buy a DSLR.. hehehe
Christmas Camera Wish List:
1. Nikon D3 – Do I have to explain why? Read the Nikon D3 reviews and see the Nikon D3 photos to see why this is number 1 on my list.. Finally a DLSR that blows canon out of the race despite their release of the 21MP Canon EOS 1-Ds Mark III
2. Nikon D300 - Because its the D3 in a different body.. not exactly but real close and quality has been improved from the D200.. and the D200 was a great toy..
3. Nikon D40X – Why the D40x because of the high ISO quality.. because its a good camera outof the box… 10mp and clean files.. what more can you ask for a camera priced less than 30k? (last i heard it was doing 26k in the gray markey) I think this camera would win in the budget camera division.. cheap but power packed. Image quality is even better than some more expensive DLSRs.
What do I think about Canon Cameras? they have the best point and shoot cameras around but I still prefer Nikon for DSLRs.. am basing my choices on experience with Nikon.
If i were to rank Cameras in order of Brand, I would rank them in this order. This ranking only applies to commercially available cameras in the Philippines.

2. Canon
3. Olympus
4. Sony
5. Panasonic
6. Samsung
7. Pentax
