Sangyaw Festival to be revived – Where to stay in Leyte for the Sangyaw Festival
May 15, 2008
Sangyaw Festival created by former First Lady Imelda Marcos is scheduled to open on June 29, 2008. The Festival has been revived by her nephew, Mayor Alfred Romualdez.
”Sangyaw Festival” – means to herald news
Contingents coming from the different provinces and cities in the country joined in the festivities. According to the Tacloban government website, Among those who have committed to join the Festival Parade are Cebu City Mayor Tommy Osmeña, Talisay City (Cebu) Mayor Soc Fernandez, Lapu-lapu City Mayor Art Radaza, Bacolod City Mayor Bing Leonardia, Makati City Mayor Jojo Binay, Silay City Mayor Oti Montelibano, Isabela City (Basilan) Mayor Chery Acbar, Marikina City Mayor Marides Fernando, Navotas City Mayor Toby Tiangco and San Carlos City Mayor Bong Lacson.
Its a good time to fly to Tacloban, first reason is that you got to see 2 Festivals at once.. the Pintados Kasadyaan on June 27 and the Sangyaw Festival on June 29.. and hopefully both festivals will be a sight to see! The second reason is that Cebu Pacific is on sale again with their Zero Fares! you can get your trip as low as P3800++ depends on availability of the flights.
I was getting mixed up with their schedules and stumbled only two sites that pointed me in the right direction and made me decide to do some calls.. tacloban also seems to be confused since out of the 8-10 people i talked to, only 2 knew the schedules and both were not even sure about the events.. press release to follow regarding the Schedule of Activities for the Sangyaw Festival.
