DX lenses won’t necessarily cover the full sensor on a full frame camera, so distortion and vignetting wouldn’t be surprising if you tried to use lenses intended for a smaller format on a larger format sensor

30mm in FX would be 50mm in FF… but the optics are not the same… 30mm tends to distort on FX… but 50mm in FF not, when you are shooting portraits thats a real difference for me. Also the Nikon 14-24mm AFS f/2.8 G ED its the best wide angle lens out there…

I also have the D300 and have to agree the D700 really doesn’t hold much of a draw for me. Had they come out at the same time – maybe.

i really like full frame CMOS sensor on a DSLR so i would go for the D700
