Typhoon threatens Tacloban Festivals – Sangyaw and Pintados Festival

June 23, 2008 by admin

This is a test for the Tacloban City Goverment to bring things up to speed as Typhoon Frank wreaks havoc bringing heavy rains and strong winds causing floods and still undetermined total damages to properties in the city of Tacloban and the nearby municipalities.

The Tacloban Ampitheater which has been newly-built at Balyuan Park was toppled down by the strong gusty winds. What is the extent of the damage? we still have to find out… The Ampitheater was built in time for the Tacloban City Fiesta on June 30, to be the venue of the Sangyaw Festival on June 29.

Will it be repaired on time? This will depend as the government will have their hands full, repairing and checking what damage has been caused by the Typhoon.

Just called the Tourism office and found out that the typhoon put a halt to last Fridays activities and events but the tourism office confirmed that everything was up and running last saturday night for the events and festivities.

The Tourism office has confirmed the Pintados Festival on June 27 at the Grandstand but could not answer for the Sangyaw Festival since the Sangyaw Festival was going to use the newly constructed Ampitheater at the Balyuan Park and was toppled down by Typhoon Frank. We shall be waiting for updates on from the City of Tacloban.

Updates coming soon…
