Aliwan Festival 2008 has a definite winner and that is Lumad Basakanon.. but there are others that argue that the Dinagyang deserved to win.. What do you guys think?

dinagyang should won the recent aliwan.unpredictable choreography is their lethal weapon while sinulog is too lame for their “almost the same” choreo..panget!!!!nakakasawa!
well SINULOGS edge about DINAGYANG is its clear CHOREOGHRAPJY & STORY LINES & CONCEPT as well. DINAGYANG is good but head banging in a prayer dance for STO NINO is not juyst appropriate… lol
where is the choreography and story in SINULOG when they dance with banana and monkey costumes in a repetitive steps and motion? where is the cultural, historical and religious relevance in it?c’mon!!what an IRONY!!DINAGYANG on the contrary depicts a warrior dance of the aeta of panay honoring the INFANT JESUS AS LORD, hereby manifesting cultural, historical and religious relevance!!
all i can say is that being able to win for the third straight time and in three consecutive years is just something beyond mere luck or cheat or conspiracy from judges or all other fabricated reasons coming out of a sour graping mind.
and whoever is questioning choreography and story of a contingent should make a contingent first for himself, let it compete in the Aliwan, and should win AT LEAST THREE STRAIGHT TIMES. this way you’ll prove you have the ‘authority’ to comment and destroy other contingents. if you can’t make it, better shut your ‘non-sense-comment-producing’ oral and hand mechanisms (adding to the now-alarming issue of noise pollution and internet traffic) and convince your ‘beloved’ DINAGYANG to become winners in 2009 Aliwan. Or better yet, teach your beloved DINAGYANG to accept defeat graciously and develop a ‘larger brain’ to understand the beautiful principle of defeat. glory can’t be found in winning alone. think deeper than your usual to understand this! don’t let the IQ-lowering effects of lead ruin further your intelligence.
to sinulog, this maybe late but congrats still. truly, cebu has become a haven of excellence not only economically but in all other aspects as culturally included. no doubt, the economic boom in cebu has been the result of combined favorable factors making it rightfully the ‘Queen City of the South’ for a very long time now – title recognized by the entire country and the world. I’m not a cebuano but everytime a philippine provice for example succeeds, this is something a filipino should be proud of, not like others there who still enjoy the ‘crab mentality’ mindset.
to the destroyers abouve and by extension, iloilo, i think there are things you need to learn and first of them is why you have been dethroned of the seat of being the former ‘Queen City of the South’. Perhaps history is something you need to revisit. i know there are comments that will be popping out after i send this, but they don’t matter to me as this is a subject that is not for me to learn. instead, my advice could be something you can pick up a moral from. thanks.
jay@..please verify your facts before saying anything else.dont you know that there are judges who are cebuanos and choreographer of your sinulog in 3 consecutive years of winning it.and look at the mediocre performance of your sinulog compared to that of dinagyang how come it still emerged as winner.??the performance speaks for itself!!your hard allegations being the queen city of the south is out of context.we may be behind in terms of infrastuctures but we are strong in terms of human resources..just stick to the issue..sinulog is no match compared to dinagyang in terms of performance and the audience of aliwan can attest to that.let the crowd be the judged to see the difference!!
For me i have been a witness of the various festivals of the philippines , i watch sinulog and i have been in aliwan for 4 consecutive years, I am not a cebuano or ilonggo sa nakita ko sa aking pagiikot sa mga festivals walang question sa pag ka Queen City ng cebu sa south , hindi naman kasi yun ang city ang pinaguusapan eh, Pero kong festival ang paguusapan im so sorry to all my friends from cebu, For me Dinagyang Festival of Iloilo is more attractive, lively, more skillful, and well choreo compare to sinulog , it is really a real quality of festival and it is worth as the Best Festival of the Philippines, I agree to all the credible people of the regional directors of ATOP, and the recognition of the United Nation ,and the best festival cooperation of the philippines between local and NGO level. this are most crideble and dignified people of judging the winners. Well research na ang tittle na yan as a 3 times Best Tourism Event ang Dinagyang sa Buong Pilipinas. For me NOTHING BEATS DINAGYANG FESTIVAL as the best Festival of the Philippines, pero ang pagpili ng Best tourism Credible yan at pagpili ng United Nation.
I hope for Aliwan 2009 will be a change of standard for Aliwan.
Im not favor the sinulog as the best in choreography pero choreo lang ba dapat basihan ang festival????????
Think it wellllll……..?????????????
Bawat movie ay may theme song yan even instrument must be fix to that movie in on action, mapadrama, action.comedy, fantasy, love story ay nagkatukma lahat ng nakabackground at ganyan ang SINULOG lahat nagkakatukma.
Alam mo supreme ka nga of what you think lang at dahil sa lugar mo? the Etiology of Dinagyang since 1967, was the acceptance of Tribal atis or itas in the Island of panay and they are dancing with the certain beats of sounds .Dinagyang is the reflections of cultures of Ati s in Panay and they are praising God thru their different tones and rythmic dances, dont question dinagyang there are always a lot of innovations every year palaging bago yan , Kaya nga Dinagyang received a lot of recognitions and Awards already because of the quality it is the only Festival of the World recognized by the United Nation, 3 times Best Tourism Awardee of the Philippines, Dinagyang is the Best Practices of local ,private and Ngo cooperation of the philippines, and they are always being invited by different countries Worldwide, probably they will be with us this year in june here in New York, kaya umani na nga sila ng maraming Awards because of everything as the Best Festival of the Philippines or Best Tourism Event of the Philippines.
And let them to do their own alam nila yan they know their cultures and traditional practices. They have everything when it comes to that they are the Best , pagfestival ang paguusapan kapatid, pag second sa manila when it comes to city seyempre cebu ako kasi yan din ang totoo, pero pagpinagusapan ang festival seyempre Dinagyang ako ng Iloilo.ok Huwag kang ,kumuntra Nagsasabi lang ako ng totoo.ok
Alam mo supreme ka talaga of what you think lang dahil lugar mo yan? The Etiology of Dinagyang since 1967 was the praising and acceptance of ati s for santo nino,Dinagyang is the reflection of Ita s culture and traditions in the island of Panay, and they are praising God by producing sounds with different tones and rythm of music by exressing it thru their tribal dances . And they cant change it thats why they are showing it to their festival celebration about it. Ako hindi ako taga cebu or taga iloilo but i know it, I know the concept also of sinulog because im always there for sinulog also.. Thats why Dinagyang of Iloilo received a lot of Awards already because of the Quality of the Festival for being the 3 times BEst Tourism Awardee of the Philippines, choosen by 16 regions throughout the country, by Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines Nationwide, Dinagyang is the only Festival of the World, choosen and recognized by the United Nation for their mellinium goal, at dapat maging proud ka nyan supreme kahit hindi mo man lugar dahil Pilipinas parin yan? At Dinagyang Awarded as the Best Practices of Local Govt, private and NGO cooperations of the Philippines by Asian Development Bank of the Philippines. And Dinagyang Festival is always invited Internationally by different countries Worldwide, and most probably they will be with us this june here in America again. Kong promotion lang grabi ang cebu kasi they are paying sa pages ng News at magazine just to promote lang ng sinulog .At kaya nga din umani ng Awards sa pilipinas at sa buong Mundo ang Dinagyang because it is the Best Festival of the Philippines or the Best Tourism Event s of the Philippines . And Dinagyang is WORTH for that MABUHAY ANG PILIPINAS
@ed I agree with jay. You seem to be very judgmental when in fact you even don’t have the right to do so as you have not proven yourself as an ‘authority’ to this type of field. Look at your words:
‘mediocre’ (as if you know how to judge a good performance in an expert kind of way);
‘there are judges who are cebuanos and choreographer of your sinulog in 3 consecutive years of winning it’ (as if you exactly knew the judges would really be biased. Don’t judge people as if they have rotten values like you. Not all people are as cheap as you are; trading their hard-earned reputations to favor a contingent just because they live in the same province – what’s the relevance of that.
‘your hard allegations being the queen city of the south is out of context’ (I don’t think it’s out of context. It’s just a support of his first statement saying congratulations to Cebu. I think you have to open up your elementary notes again and read how to do ‘thought development’. You might have missed it – or probably it’s not taught in Iloilo or you missed it because you’re just so pre-occupied about playing a ‘know-it-all’ person when in fact, you have not proven anything significant.
‘we may be behind in terms of infrastuctures but we are strong in terms of human resources’ (at least you’re honest about being behind on infrastructures because it’s true. But I think you’re wrong about being strong in human resources. All of the provinces in the country are really strong in human resources. Filipinos are known to be superb in the world. So, don’t claim you’re the only one. In fact, when you think about it, the more people a province has, the more chances it has to get better resources (human resources as you say). So, between Cebu and Iloilo, which of the two has more population thereby, having more chances of better human resources? I know you can answer that.
@rob and bong when you talk about the united nations blah..blah…probably it’s the one you know since there are just few of these citations for your beloved bet. A person can only remember when there’s just too few to recall. Cebu doesn’t have to announce anything because there’s just too many to remember. It’s clear and all other provinces really would admit – that the island has a lot to offer! The real measure of being REALLY good is when others praise you and you don’t praise yourself and between Iloilo and Cebu, modesty aside, a lot of other provinces or places in the world have already praised Cebu thus, we don’t have to praise ourselves.
@Lasfilipinas you don’t speak like you’re a native or living in America. You’re probably is an Ilonggo just living in Iloilo or somewhere else in the Philippines (probably Cebu). Sorry, just an intuition. So, if you really aren’t living in the US then don’t pretend. I have been in the US a lot of times and I tell you, aside from the money you earn there, it’s still worth retiring here in the Philippines.
supreme@ you are the one who does not know the concept of dinagyang.please do research before making any comments.well, to give you some info about dinagyang, its a combination of religious and cultural showcase of the people of panay in honor of the holy child jesus.cultural in the sense that the ati were given the due respect as aborigene of panay and religious because the senyor sto. nino were given the honor and homage as the son of God.the presentation is a warrior dance depicting the homage to the sto. nino and the choreography is based in that category.so what is your problem now?the beating is unique that is why no other beats could beat the beatings of dinagyang.ok!!hope this will give you some enlightenment about dinagyang. why not try to witness it by the way?ok!!
I want to correct you commentator , Firstly Im not pretending im always in Dinagyang and sinulog thats why i know the history of Dinagyang because im reading their history the same as cebu sinulog. And i will not say anything about the 2 festivals if i was not able to witness and observed the 2 events frequently. And i love philippines fiestas it so happened that Iloilo festival is really unique and more attractive than any others in the country and thats my personal judgement except the records of awards they received nationally and internationally, and who ever is the best im supporting it here when it comes to city im also promoting cebu in fact i know it is really beautiful but when it comes to festival im supporting dinagyang because it is also the best of the country. Secondly i am not an Ilonggo speaking person and i come from the state of mindanao and i want to tell you frankly i am also a cebuano speaking person and i am not in the philippines or any part of our country ,you are correct im in the foreign land, . And i agree with you in your last stride, dont worry about it there is no place in this world like home even you ve learned to love their place for many reasons. Thanx
For commentator, i just want to divulge my point about your comments. My comments is purely about festivals and recognizing the awards they received in the country and from international. Apparently im only refferring to festivals current recognition for Dinagyang records and so far there is no festivals in the philippines receives like this. And im not talking about any other things .That was an ultimate responses to all murky comments and satirisations of others or your fellows like kay supreme of not knowing about the history of dinagyang. It migth be for you who is not mentioning it , but for some i dont think so ,try to observe their comments. Next is Dinagyang has been recognised already nationally and Internationally ,thats why it obtains this awards and recognitions ,i beleived it is an honor for our country, and we are not the one who recognized and praising it to be on top. But inivitably it is continuously satired by your fellow thats why i am defending it thru praising the festivity because those are factual records when it comes to festivals. The same of what you felt thats why you responded. If you will talk about the other records of cebu, in some ways i have also an ideas about his history and recent or current trends. But let me also to share it with you, the records of Iloilo in which i beleived this is not known to you about the 60 first records of iloilo in the country s history that could be remembered by authentic historians except the first mass held in limasawa in cebu and cebu as being the oldest city of the country .May be through this ,we can be a close friends by sharing our histories and cultures ,i want to invite you in 2009 dinagyang and probably my special guest. it s up to you if you will invite me also to sinulog?
I just want to correct you commentator ,Firstly I know the story of Dinagyang of Iloilo and the sinulog because im reading their histories and visits and witnessing both Iloilo and cebu events. It so happened that Dinagyang of iloilo is really unique than any other festivals in the country thats my personal judgement except for their national as the best tourism awardee for 3 times and International awards and recognitions. And I love philippine fiestas and i witness and observed that, but what ever the best like cebu city im also promoting cebu because the city is really good, but when it comes to festival im also promoting Dinagyang because it is also the best in the country. Secondly sorry i am not pretending of what you think i am not an Ilonggo speaking person, and i want to tell you frankly i was born from the state of mindanao and im a cebuano speaking also. Thirdly i want to correct your doubt im not in any part of our country and im in a foreign land and lastly dont worry about your last stride there is no place in the world like home .
i dont care who wins or who loses in the aliwan. whatever is declared by the judges as the winner, i support their decision. i still have trust in people and i still believe in the ability of people to be unbiased and independent. i dont give myself the right to misjudge the judges as bias since if i am in their shoes, i would really be faithful in giving scores to the delegates regardless of whether they are my ‘kababayans’ or not.
i think it all goes down to your own values – if you think the judges are biased then, probably you are biased yourself if you have been the judge(good thing you weren’t the judge). there’s a saying which goes, “what you see in others is what you see of yourself’.
commentator@ the judgement was based on the events happened so you must interpret it in that way.the performance is indeed mediocre in the sense that it was recycled all over again.a repeat performance for 3x is already a valid ground for mediocrity for it lost the sense of innovations, styles, creativity and among others.now, with regards to human resources,it is a reality in the sense that iloilo has been consistent in producing quality graduates as proven through the presence of 8 universities and several colleges within the city.our graduates are perrenial topnotchers in board exams and are globally competitive.for instance ,univ. of san agustin ranked 3 in medtech, saint paul univ. always number one and west visayas state univ. always a runner up in nursing, john b. lacson is the only maritime university in south east asia to name the few of our academic excellence.and we are now ranked 3 in bpo industry throughout the country.it is only a matter of time that our city will awaken from a deep sleep to regain its former glory.this is not meant to offend any place or person but this is based on facts and datas for the sake of truth and information.again, no offense meant.
And I beleived time will come with strong highest literacy rate in the City together with world class 8 Universities and probably maging 12 universities nayan next 2011 and 55 colleges as far as i know yan ang maging basihan ng mga BPO sa bansa sa ngayun dahil sa number of graduates as a strong man power for the city of Iloilo, at according to BPO ,Iloilo has highest of 17 % in English compare to national average of 3 % which is a strong advantage in the future sabi ng mga BPO . World class ship building company at superpower plant for panay? I heared a lot na maraming Infrastractures ang papasok daw. Im sure time will come …Totoo ba ito ed? nabasa ko sa Internet?
@ed when you say ‘the judgment’ you mean (or should mean) your judgment not judgment from competent people. well, you’re entitled to your own thoughts and as it is, these are just your own thoughts – which are greatly insignificant and immaterial to others as well. when you said 3 times a mediocre performance, indirectly, you’re saying three batches of mediocre judges. judges who have lived their lives as hard as they can to earn their reputations and now, you underestimate them as if you are better than them. no matter how much i’m going to repeat this but i would say you have no right to judge people if you’re not an authority. as what jay had said above, create your own group first, let it win the aliwan three straight times and then, at least, by just a tinnie-winnie insignificant fabric of authority you gain from this, you can say and destroy others at least. if you haven’t proven anything, learn to shut your mouth. sometimes, too much talking without substance is just ‘form without content’. and you’re exactly that.
secondly, i really wouldn’t want to comment on your greatly off-tangent topic about famous schools or anything but just to get an entertainment out of you, let me reduce myself to childish ‘commenting’ like you did. firstly, the schools you’ve mentioned we’re really not famous and unheard of in this side of the country (or probably on most sides of the country as well). well, at least that’s an indication they just garnered a few of the major awards. you were proud to mention about your 8 universities but, granting they are really 8 in your province, they are still unheard. i wouldn’t have to tell you anything more about how many universities or schools or institutions here but i am confident to tell you they are really good and i dont want to discuss about details of their awards because there are just too many to mention. as what i said in the previous comment, we dont have to praise ourselves in order to prove we’re good. the best measure of being really good is when others praise you and you dont praise yourself. again, just to play with you, let me give you just one university from cebu – university of san carlos. whether you admit it or not, you would know this is just an example of a great university in the south. you can research about every major award or topnotches they get throughout history. not only that, john gokongwei (if of course you know about business) one of the county’s top businessmen (together with henry sy, jaime augusto zobel de ayala and lucio tan) is a graduate of such school. i am confident to mention about one school only since i know this one school can just easily equal or more so, topple out the meager achievements of the 8 unheard universities you said. how much more if i mention more. so, enough of this part of the off-tangent topic about schools and let’s go back to the festival topic more.
@ed just one little childish side comment – a colleague of mine who is from iloilo, in the course of our conversation, said your city is just more or less the same as mandaue city (a component city of cebu) here. by looking at that, i would really say there’s still a lot of ‘waking up’ that your city has to do so, enough of the crap and, instead of typing comments in this blogsite, pls help out in the dirty work of bringing your place to progress. good luck to that!
commentator@ im only presenting some informations about the educational standards and achievements of our city in response to your reactions before.well it is up to you if dont believe in it but the facts and records will show otherwise.its your choice!!
my best regards to mike@ may i suggest you just go and search the iloilo thread for that matter.my appreciation for your comment.
now for you commentator@NO OTHER BEAT COULD BEAT THE BEATS OF DINAGYANG OK!!THE CROWD OF ALIWAN WOULD ALWAYS LOOK AT IT FULL OF AWE AND AMAZEMENT!!
YOU ARE VERY MUCH INVITED TO WITNESS IT!!
@mike parang manghang mangha ka sa ganitong mga types of progress? well, if nasa cebu ka lng, hindi ka na mamamahangha kasi natural lng itong mga types of developments na to sa amin. to mention:
* 8 universities is just a small number dito sa cebu. kahit 12 cguro is just immaterial. ang mga universities dito ay mostly ‘autonomous’ or ‘deregulated’ ang status sa CHED. research mo kung anong ibig sabihin nito. tama si commentator, no need to mention awards and anything kasi we have a lot of it.
* Cebu is the biggest hub of BPO services in the philippines. it used to be india ang malaki globally but due to english barrier and resource efficiency, they transferred it to cebu. president GMA even said this in her speech. we have an Asiatown IT Park here na parang isang city rin cya within a city. parang ibang time zone cla, very lively at night. so cguro, dahil cebu ang choice ng migrant BPO’s from India dito sa Pinas, it should be the best in the country right in terms of english probably?
* investments of Ayala, Megaworld and Gokongwei (not Go kungwe and taga Cebu rin cya studied in University of San Carlos here) and Lopezes have big commercial investments here. Ayala in fact has their own ‘Cebu Business Park’ na parang IT park din.
* we also have our own world class ship building company located in Balamban, Cebu. It’s Tsuneishi Heavy Industries. You can research the internet about that.
* maraming power plants dito kung sakali ito ay idagdag mo sa mga measures. in fact, due to the high power demand from cebu, we are getting power supplies from leyte and bohol. high power demand means high economic activity in the place – thus, higher development di ba?
* AT MARAMI PANG IBA. my hands will just get numb if i say them all.
So, in conclusion, nababaguhan ka lng on this type of development kaya naiintindihan kita. I know we all aspire for good things to our individual places but don’t get offended, this is completely out of the topic. we’re just talking about festivals here. let’s stick to it.
@ mike dagdag lng. just in case you don’t know, meron din kaming maraming economic zones dito – at least four that I know – Mactan Economic Zone 1, 2, Light Industries (Aboitiz owned) at Naga Township at iba pa na i’m not familiar with. economic zones are export zones, specially created by the Philippine Government to become export nexus to other countries. in fact, zero-rated ang kanilang mga products kasi special tax ang used nila. if you are not familiar of export zones; samples of which are SBMA (Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority) and Clark.
we also have a Malacanang of the South. this is just newly-created (about how many years ago pa). if the president (current and future) comes to the south, ito ang kanyang tahanan. you can also research about this. subways and other infrastructures are also in process here. japanese firms ang naka kontrata. salamat po.
@ commentator, subra kanaman never heard na mga universities, baka sa yo lang hindi mo narinig ,at ang sa inyo lang ang narinig mo? just research the John B. lacson University that is the only maritime University of the Philippines and Top Maritime School of Southeast Asia, Saint Paul University of Iloilo is No.1 School of Nursing in the Philippines at ang West Visayas State University, The University of the Philippines in the Visayas the main is here and Central Philippine University at hindi narin kailangan kong sinong mga known politicians at dignitaries o bussiness personalities ang mga nangaling din.kaya nga aware ka dahil of what you know about your place lang din. Just ask the ChEd and PRC sa mga performances din ng schools na yan at tungkol sa Mandaue na comment na kasamahan mo na galing sa Iloilo mali ang info nya at hindi nya alam ang lugar nya? Iloilo is Bigger than Mandaue city area double ng Iloilo ang Mandaue of 34 sq.km at Iloilo is 60 sq.km at sa population Mandaue is 318,000 as of 2007and Iloilo is 500,000 as of mid 2007 . Like Iloilo 1855 up to 1940 s The only province who open to worldwide trading and exporting that time ,thats why Iloilo was the No.1 province and the most prosperous place in the country at the time history can tell that mga 95 years din ang progress ng Iloilo at the time.Until end of WW2 the economy was damaged lang thats why cebu took the tittle as Queen of the south in 1970 s. But dont worry they are working hard right now for the progress of Iloilo. Pero we can not deny the facts hindi naman as kulilat na huli ang Iloilo of what we think andyan parin sya after cebu nga at Davao kunting panahon lang hindi rin lalayo ang agwatan .
everyone can dance like sinulog do, with very predictable moves, but not everyone can dance like dinagyang.with Pin-sharp accuracy and synchronization
look at the internet and see for yourself the top 10 performing nursing school in the phili nov 2008 nurse licensure exam. CPU 97% passing rate #3 as top performing school with 2 topnotcher, and 100% in Medical board exam,University of San Agustin 93% #8 as top performing school with 1 topnothcer,St.Paul University Iloilo 100% with 2 topnothcer, Iloilo Doctors College 70% out of 900+ examinee 666 passed with 2 topnothcers.
try to look at the airport of iloilo and compare to yours.
No other beat beats the beat of Dinagyang Festival.dinagyang is an ati warrior dance in celebration of the coming of sto.nino, so there is merry making. The performances have awed audiences because of its spectacle – the choreography, costumes and music are very impressive. Especially, the choreography which has been noted by no less than the National Commission for the Culture and the Arts (NCCA). The commission has tagged Dinagyang as the “Festival of Excellent Folk Choreography”. does your sinulog has this?!hahahaha. monkey and banana? whats the essence of this to sinulog?!
At ano ang sabi mo good sa English dahil may Indian BPO company tungkol dyan hindi ako ang nagsabi ang nagsabi ang mga taga BPO dahil inalam nila sa facts ng records sa performances ng schools which is a strong man power and advantage for Iloilo in the Future of 17 % compared to national percentage of 3%.
Eh prove nalang natin na humble talaga tayo? at let the people nga to recognized it .ok salamat nageexplain lang.
@ ed, jk and mike, i’ll comment on you some other time as i’m a little pre-occupied now. i am even doubting if some of your reactions are worth commenting about.
@ mike. just a short comment. pls organize better your comments next time. the thoughts are barely understandable. i suggest you put an opening, body and close. or siguro, if you make it a little shorter, mas understandable pa.
@ mike pahabol din. if you want to talk to ed alone, you do not address it to a public site like this. if you have known your internet protocol properly, you would have understood that posting this in a pubic site is like opening your comments for all people to react. so, if you want to talk to ed alone, do not put it here. get informed first before you blabber.
mike, cebu is nothing compared to quezon..hahaha..cebu cant match quezon..thats fact.
uhm, as i have read from the comments above, i really do approve of what @jay and @commentator said. before judging others, be really sure that you are in the authority of doing so. look at this, many people are fighting over the aliwan crown so this means that truly the aliwan is a very prestigious event. if we consider the aliwan as a very prestigious event, we could conclude that the judges they get are not just ‘mediocre’ judges, but are the best ones that could really critic a festival performance.
as what on had said above, there are 3 cebuano judges in the panel. see? three cebuano judges. the best. why should we still argue on that? cebuanos have reached the judges level already so it would mean that it would not be a mystery for a cebuano to reach being ‘the best’. what i mean is this: cebuanos always strive for excellence that even cebuanos were chosen as judges by credible AUTHORITIES, how much more for dancers being chosen by CREDIBLE JUDGES?
the judges in the aliwan also are not ’so-so’ people. they have earned their reputation because of their excellence in their respective fileds. they were chosen because the organizers think they are capable of doing their job as judge in a very prestigious contest like aliwan. so anyone who would even try to question the judges’ decision, look in the mirror and see of you are credible enough to question a very credible decision.
as what priests in cebu have reiterated, the icon of the sto.niño is not an ordinary object. it is not just a prop. it reflectsa the child God to which the dance is being offered to. I’m sorry to tell this, but in my point of view, what dinagyang has done to the image of the sto.niño in their dance is truly unencouraged in the sinulog. sinulog organizers keep on reminding the contingents that the dance is for the holy child and not just a dance with a mere prop. what iloilo has done is what cebu keeps on avoiding. this makes the sinulog different from their festival. yes, people may say that the choreography is lousy, reused, recycle, blah-blah, but that is the sinulog. we can’t change the proper way of adoring the child-god. we dance in reverence to it and we don’t use it as a mere prop. i myself am a sinulog dancer here in cebu and i say that our dance is really a dance of worship to the holy child. no one is allowed to do anything he wants with the image. the image is not a prop. it resembles the child-god our dance is being offered to. lousy? reuse? recycle? trash? we don’t care. that’s your opinion. as long as the credible judges say we’re still the best, your comments are all useless.
Ganyan din kaya ang mga Ilonggo kong ibalik natin ang panahon ng nangunguna sila as no.1 province of the philippines and economic superior sila nuong 1855 up to 1970 s for 95 years of dominance sa Economic history ng ating bansa? Ang sagot ko Basta ako rin Nothing beats the beat of Dinagyang of Iloilo balik na nga tayo sa festival kasi baka humangin na naman mamaya ang topico dito. At maging king city of the south pa mamaya ang julo ,solo sa mindanao,
mga repapeps..were the youngest entry i believe..and virtually unkown..but try looking for us on april 25,kita kits sa aliwan..coz well give u walang katapusang excitement with our performace..just to gve a stir sa curiosity nu..mga repapeps..nasa youtube na rin yong winning perf namin sa Kasadyahan of Dinagyang Fest 2009..thats a day before the ati-ati competition..
@bob wla namang mga known na mahangin talaga kung hindi ang mga ilonggo. there was even an old adage na isang ilonggo daw ang nagsasabi “ang kwarta sa amon ginapiko ginapala”. admit it, you’re familiar with it!
i dont know if i have spoken that correctly in ilonggo but that’s the entire thought. this old saying shouldn’t have come out if it wasn’t based on ancient and long proven observations of people.
at saka kayo naman ang unang naninira di ba? if you look at the thread of comments above, makikita mo na talagang sinisiraan nyo nang una ang sinulog kesyo lame ang choreography at nakakasawa (from luamd); kesyo banana and monkey ang costumes (from ed – talagang mayabang tong taong ito; halos lahat nang negative comments galing sa kanya wla namang mai-prove na maganda).
kung sa mga topics at areas lng na obvious na talo kayo, iniiwas nyo ang conversation kasi di nyo matanggap. what if you were in the cebu shoes? you would have flipped, split and probably breakdance all your boastfulness just to show your superior than others. the boastfulness would have reached far and wide even as far as the sirius star. mga hambog naman kayo eh, in this aspect talo lng kayo kaya nililiko nyo ang usapan.
kaya siguro hanggang 1970’s lng ang korona ninyo being the queen city of the south because of that attitude. before you comment on the attitudes of others correct yourself first. huwag nang magmalinis!
@bob correction din – Jolo hindi Julo ok? at least man lang you put respect on other provinces by honoring them with their proper spelling. salamat.
@viewer I totally agree with all you say especially in the last part and i quote “as long as the credible judges say we’re still the best, your comments are all useless.” Long Live Cebu!
to louisian….university of san agustin plus central philippines univeristy are top performing nursing school in the phil.the west visayas state university and st paul university are undisputed nursing school through out the years because of high passing rate ..kindly search the following school i mention..
kapag nursing lng ang ipagmayabang natin, that’s not a quality of a well-rounded school kasi, in the first place, marami talagang magta-top sa nursing exams kahit anong schools (dito sa cebu meron ngang mga top nursing schools eh sa nursing exams). in fact, ilang libo ang pumapasa ng licensure exam na to. if the schools you’ve mentioned have fairly good toppers in the field of accountancy and law (for example lang to among the many other fields na small lng ang passing percentage), yan ang dapat ipagmayabang. thanks.
Simple lang ang comment ko. Kahit anong comment ang ilalagay ng iba, we can’t deny the fact that Sinulog Festival is a Hall of Fame – three times grand slam winner. And the FIRST Hall of Famer in the Aliwan festival. So, KAHIT MATALO PA TO SA SUCCEEDING CONTESTS, it will always be the Hall of Fame – the FIRST Hall of Fame awardee.
again dinagyang festival is invited to perform in America for their independence day celebration comes this july 2009.wow for dinagyang!!!
God bless ILOILO!!
viva senor STO. NINO!!
GOD bless our country!!
ILOILO MADE GREAT THE PHILIPPINES=HEART OF THE COUNTRY!!!
@ ceboom!..kung maraming ang topnotcher ng school mo..at mababa ang passing rate as a whole..walang kwenta ang school mo..prc refers to have high passing rate than many topnotcher..nasa inyo nga ang top 1 pero below passing rate ang school niyo..matulog ka na lang..
Sinulog festival has long penetrated the American soil and has participated and performed in a lot of American major events much much earlier. Has always been the first in everything.
Example of the many Sinulog features in American soil can be found on this page http://www.mabuhayradio.com/content/view/1729/90/
Entitled – The Sinulog Festival Can Become Los Angeles’ Biggest Event in January by 2021. It is even said that, and I quote, “The Sinulog is now the Filipino equivalent of the world-famous Rio de Janeiro Festival and the New Orleans Mardi Gras.”
I am so proud to be a Cebuano especially knowing that a lot of other Cebuanos in other countries are still very proud of their origin. This attitude is the reason Cebu has continually been progressing and soaring high not only economically and culturally but in all its aspects also.
Of course, this is made more possible with the guidance and blessings of our very own ‘Senor Santo Nino’.
Viva Pit Senyor!
For your benefit, I will try to explain my comment to you as elementary as possible. Kung tititigan mo ulit ang comment ko above, I was talking about COURSES or FIELDS (hindi SCHOOL) na low ang passing percentage – WHICH MEANS national passing percentage yan. Dahil small lang ang national passing %, THIS MEANS mahirap ang course or field dahil ON AVERAGE sa buong bansa, kokonti lang ang pumasa – chosen few kumbaga. THIS MEANS kung ang school ay maganda ang performance sa mga exams na small lang ang passing %, eh magaling talaga ang school (kasi lumusot sila sa mas mahirap na exams, how much more dun sa mas marami at malaki ang passing percentage). And by saying ‘maganda ang performance’ I MEANT HIGHER than the national passing rate ang school PLUS MARAMING topnotchers.
Totoo ang sinasabi mo na PRC looks more into the passing rate of the school than the topnotchers but it is always better to have BOTH good passing rate and topnotchers.
Salamat.
@ from cebu. that is good news! talagang nakakapagpasaya to know na ang mga cebuanos are very proud of their roots. it contributes to making Cebu the true HEART OF THE COUNTRY! kahit very basic lang on the geographical location, talagang nasa center siya ng Pinas just as the heart is the center of the body. salamat po.

TAKING FROM CEBU’S COMMENT ABOVE AND I QUOTE “Kahit na mag Hall of Fame pa ang Dinagyang sa succeeding contests, pangalawa lang sila sa Sinulog. Yun lang.”

Pasalamat ako hindi ako cebuano…
ITS ALL CLEAR NOW AFTER WATCHING 2009 ALIWAN FIESTA THAT DINAGYANG OF ILOILO IS THE MOST COPIED FESTIVAL IN THE COUNTRY.
GO DINAGYANG OF ILOILO!!
DINAGYANG BEATINGS AND STEPS ARE BEING INCORPORATED BY SOME FESTIVALS!!
MORE POWER TO DINAGYANG!!
bsta iloilo will be the next big thing,so watch out for that cebuanos!!!d nman sa lahat ng pagkakataon nanatili ang title, dba!!!and 4 u 2 realize that iloilo dinagyang s the best tourism event in the country u nid to visit the city during january and one major proof the festival is still the best is becoz it is the biggest dollar earner!!!o.k
i think the dinagyang will won because their tribe was so expectable to all filipino
insecurities…di kasi marunong tumanggap ng pagkatalo….
just for the record – the winner of the 2009 aliwan festival (buyogan festival of abuyog leyte) is actually the winner/ grand champion of the 2009 sinulog festival. thus, substantially, we can say it is still the sinulog (or the sinulog’s representative) that continues to dominate the aliwan festival – for the fourth straight time. another aliwan festival runner-up, the siloy festival from alcoy, cebu is also a runner-up in the 2009 sinulog festival. so, basically, we can say that sinulog doesn’t send contestants without being “screened” with its usual high standards. sinulog at 30 years will become even grander and more colorful this year. so, it’s something worth seeing as well – especially when the 2010 sinulog winner will represent Cebu for the 2010 aliwan festival soon!
