HP Mininote Challenge – Windows Vista Business VS Vista Basic Vs XP Home
August 2, 2008 by admin
What do 3 photographer geeks do on a weekend? Meet up and take our news toys out for a spin! We decided to do a boot up test on the three HP units we had.
- 1st Unit – 1.6GHz 2GB Ram running on Vista Business – this unit was optimized after this test and loads around 30 secs faster than what you see on the video.
- 2nd Unit- 1.2 Ghz 2 GB Ram running on Windows XP Home – my unit.. i gave up on Vista its too slow on the 1.2 Ghz brought it with me on a trip and i just really was dissappointed with the speed and reponse of the VISTA so i decided to switch to Windows XP Home and see the difference in speed on the Video. Videos (movies) now play flawlessly on my mininote.
- 3rd Unit – 1.2 Ghz 2 GB Ram running on Vista Basic – this unit was the least tampered with if i remember no major settings were changed but in the Video you will see it load faster than the 1.6Ghz because the 1.6Ghz was not properly optimized and it actually caused more harm than good.
Notes on the Mininote.
update your windows software, when i first got the mininote, i checked the updates available there was around 200+ updates waiting to be downloaded included major security updates and even the service pack 3.
Even after loading all these updates, I still felt that The HP Mininote needed to be free from Vista to see its real potential.. now on XP, the mininote is a treat! seems to be loads faster and seems to connect to wifi easier than the vista.. maybe thats just me.
I initially wanted to load up linux but decided on XP since it was more photographer friendly in terms of choice of software and ease of use when i was on the go.. not that i love xp.. my heart still belongs to the OSX!
The Photographers will love the screen and the audio.. plus the build quality is far better than any umpc available in the market today only drawback is that this baby is on the pricey side… but well worth it if you ask me.
will the hp mininote be able to run OSX in the future? hmm.. lets wait and see.. in the meantime check out the load up test we did below.

HP ROCKS!!!!!!!! woooohooo =P
