Mangyan Cultural Festival and Ang Paglalakbay ni Waraan
Please join us at the Mangyan Cultural Festival on February 7-9, 2008 at J.J.
Leido High School in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro. This is the only major
cultural activity with representations from all the Mangyan tribes in
Oriental Mindoro. Highlights include a Mangyan village featuring
traditional Mangyan homes and demonstrations of traditional arts and crafts
from Mangyan artisans. Visitors can sample native Mangyan food and learn to
write their names in Mangyan script, spin cotton, weave cloth and baskets,
do beadwork, and play musical instruments. Mangyan products will also be
sold during the event.
Capping the festival is a play entitled *Ang Paglalakbay ni Waraan*, which
chronicles the Mangyans’ struggle to celebrate and live out their culture in
the face of the many challenges they encounter. The play will be presented
by students from the different Mangyan tribes.
