Finally a Full Frame Sensor for Nikon 5 years too late?
Nikon Finally delivers a full frame camera with the D3 with 12MP.. 5 years behind the Canon 1Ds that has 11MP… too late the Hero? that remains to be seen.. suddenly all the old lenses have new life again.. full frame is it worth the cost? If prices are too steep wouldnt it be better to go higher end with a medium format digital back?
What struck with the new FXÂ Sensor was that for the longest time, People have been saying that it is physically impossible for nikon do a full frame with the size of its current mount.. apparently nikon has proven us wrong… We were following the same school of thought as Canon when they changed their mount… will have to try a better explanation of how they achieved this milestone.
Here is the Description of the FX format image sensor;
FX Format Image Sensor
The D3 FX format CMOS imaging sensor was designed from the ground up to offer exceptional light transmission properties, so photographers can acquire outstanding image quality even in low light conditions. With a high signal to noise ratio, a pixel pitch 15% larger than competitive cameras, gapless surface micro-lenses and advanced on-chip noise reduction means high-quality images under very low light levels are now possible. The sensor enables an ISO settings range from 200-6400, expandable up to the equivalent of 25,600 or down to 100.
From the above description is seems like the issue of high noise in their higher ISO settings is a non issue.. how clean are the files? we have to wait and see once they upload test images for the D3.. Now the D2x makes more sense that It is a dual camera with 12MP and 6MP 8fps
The D3 is the world’s fastest full format D-SLR for now… The D3 shoots at 9 fps on full frame, with an even faster 11fps consecutive shooting possible in DX crop mode.
The D300 is a solid camera with features that will blow your mind.. now with a CMOS chip hopefully better thant the current 12mp chip they have on the camera.. (d40 can kick the D2x at ISO 400 and up!). It seems like the D300 series has stepped up where the D2h has left off?
Going back to our title 5 years too late? Hell no! Cameras are just tools for us to enhance our creative juices.. Nikon just made it sweeter by giving us a tool that we have been waiting for a long, long time… am sure all the nikon users are excited especially now that the Market seems to be dominated by the Nikon Users!
Now comes the waiting game till they release the new cameras… am sure a lot of people with 17-35 f2.8 and the 28-70 f2.8 will be very delighted once these new cameras are released. Its a whole new game of playing catch up again!
Wait there’s more! Take a peek and see the Beauty of the Philippines!
