What is Truphone?
Truphone routes your mobile calls via the internet. That means free mobile calls to other Truphone users & very cheap calls to anyone else.
Three reasons to get Truphone
- Terrific offer: free calls until Dec 31st. Sign up before 30th September and get free mobile calls to 40 countries worldwide for the rest of the year.
- Great for travelling - Avoid inbound roaming charges as Truphone works wherever you have access to Wi-Fi.
- No monthly charges - And free to download.
another advantage of the service is that you are given your own US number so anyone can reach you or leave you voicemail which will be forwarded to your email if you are offline.
Install the software on your unit - watch the installation - http://youtube.com/truphone

ill be updating photos later for now, i will show the 3G access using truphone on my E61i.
the green square indicates a connection and Voip calls can be made (note not all places have good signal to make the calls better check your internet speed with speedtest.ph)

Look out for the internet call available logo on upper right hand of your phone. As you can see am using my globe visibility on my Nokia E61i. i also have a prepaid Smart Buddy, I use as an alternative to the globe.. if you dont see any revision of this post then assume that it also works on the Prepaid 3g Service of Smart.

I didnt have anyone to call at the moment since they are all sleeping.. so i decided to call the Apple Iphone hotline instead.. notice the extension of the number made during the call it has the extension @truphone.com
I wanted to place the audio recording of the apple iphone service but the phone doesnt allow recording while using the internet call feature..
What Countries can you call?
Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil (Rio de Janeiro & Sao Paulo only), Canada, Chile, China (Landline and Mobile), Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Guam, Hong Kong (Landline & Mobile), Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Korea (South), Luxembourg, Malaysia, Mexico (Guadalajara, Mexico City & Monterrey only), Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Panama City, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Russia (Moscow Central & St Petersburg only), Singapore (Landline & Mobile), Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, United Kingdom, US Virgin Islands, USA (Landline & Mobile)
What other Services are available?
Free SMS messages - Text other Truphone users for free
Announcing our revolutionary SMS over IP service.
Send and receive SMS messages to other online Truphone users for FREE or enjoy a flat worldwide tariff of just 7p/15c to all other regular mobile numbers.
Receiving SMS messages to your Truphone number is also free (great for avoiding inbound charges when you’re abroad).
SMS over IP is a breakthrough technology developed by Truphone, but is still in beta. Do not rely on SMS over IP for important messages. In particular, note:
* Inbound SMS for users with +1 Truphone numbers is not yet possible. We are addressing this. However, all Truphone users can send texts outbound
* Texting premium numbers from Truphone is not possible (but then, why spend money when you don’t have to?)
GOOD NEWS! ITS FREE UNTIL DEC 31, 2007
Will post more photos soon and try to record a international call so you can hear the clarity and check if there is any lag in the service.
I wonder how the Local Telcos and internet providers react with this kind of Free service … more reasons to get a globe visibility account or pldt weroam.
Wait there’s more! Take a peek and see the Beauty of the Philippines!

[...] Anton Sheker sent me a link to his blog post about making free calls around the world using your 3G phone and VOIP. I know it’s possible if you can run Skype on your mobile phone but I haven’t heard heard nor seen anything else. [...]

hey jigger,
the 3G is one of the updates they sent a few days ago..
the workaround for the dec31 deadline is to make sure the person you are calling also is subscribed to truphone since truphone users are free to use the service.
truphone will eventually charge you if you call a landline or celphone.. but if you call another truphone member half a world a way then its free!

why not just use rebtel? It seems too much effort to set up Truphone when you can get free calls without downloads complex calling processes. Read an interview with Souheil Badran, general manager and president of Rebtel for the US and the Asia-Pacific. After reading this, how could you not just straight to http://www.rebtel.com and sign up!

christine,
this service only works with nokia celphones with wifi… and recently updated 3G signal works for the calls…
Truphone works on the latest ‘dual-mode’ phones including the Nokia E60, E61, E61i, E65, E70 E90, N80 Internet Edition and N95.
