TESDA preparing certification for Philippine Photographers

What is TESDA? TESDA is the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority
TESDA in cooperation with the FPPF and Manila’s top Photographers are in process of developing a certification and qualification standards for Photographers. Yes you read it right.. They are putting a system of standards and qualifications for Photographers. The Initial Setup is composed of 4 competencies… the highest being that for the Professional Photo Studio.
With the emergence of cheaper and better Digital Cameras, The business of Photography has been flourishing but not all photographers are alike and all business have different practices, that is where TESDA comes in and sets minimum standard requirements for Photographers depending on their qualification under the different compentencies.
The Philippines has become a pool for international markets for skilled workers and now even Photographers are needed abroad that is why, TESDA is setting the minimum skills and qualification standards for the photographer to get certified before he is allowed to venture into his new photography world, in this case photography on board cruise ships.
20 of the top photographers in their field were invited to take part in forming and setting the standards for TESDA. Photographers in the group invited included Ramond Isaac, Mark Floro, Allan Razo, Juluis Klar, Jay Javier, Sonny Yabao, John Chua (represented by wife Harvey), Toch Arellano, Bernard Mejias, Nes Santiago and Anton Sheker to name a few of the Photographers present. The Photographers reviewed, deliberated and revised technical data that will be used by TESDA in formulating their key competencies for the photography certification. It will take time since the results of the other regions will have to be collated and fused together as one.
This certification is voluntary but if all the ad agencies and photography related businesses adopt it, then everyone will eventually be forced to take it.
I think this is a good step into the future of philippine photography, setting the standards and raising the awareness of what it really takes to become a “Professional Photographer in the Philippines”
Watch out for the TESDA certification for Photographers once they finalize all details and data is collated from the other regions in the Philipppines.

wow this is cool
hopefully, i’ll pass this certification hehe
[...] TESDA Certification for Photographers – TESDA, in cooperation with the FPPF and Manila’s top Photographers, is working on certification and qualification standards for Photographers. [...]
jorem,
after reviewing the basic competencies, it doesnt seem hard.. its just really to make sure that the photographer knows the basics of being a “photographer” including all the technical details and hopefully the work ethics included photography.
any more info on TESDA’s imformation? I am interested in getting certified.
pinoyboy,
you will have to wait since we just finished the review here in ncr, the other regions will have to send in their inputs and it will be collated and reviewed again before finalization.
when it becomes final, we will place the update here..
that is great news. id take that exam when its done.
This is B.S. to me! Im sorry but that is my personal opinion. What they need to figure out is how these local photographers could get a break out in the advertising industry. Theres a lot of talent in the country and they dont need any stumbling blocks like this. What they need is help how to get their work out in the open.
We have formed a community http://www.pinoygraphers.com And unlike this system, we are helping aspiring photographers get their work out to be recognized and get good quality paid projects.
Again, dont hate me for expressing my thoughts about this but this is just sad they had to waste so much time and money to come up with something like this. If you guys wanna help then this isnt doing them any good at all. You guys are helping the businesses but not the starving photographer.
Peace.
-I intentionally left my email address for the admin to send me his remarks about my opinion. Thanks guys.
B.Ss lang yang Certification na yan. I’m sure may charges yan para makuha mo yang test. Gumagawa lang ng pera ang mga yan.
Kung meron ka talagang skills create your portfolio present it by creating website. spend your money right by advertising your services. create a competitive pricing. you dont need to work for anyone be self sufficient and be your own boss.
Well that’s what I do if it’s me.
Yung Test na to is just reason for you not to do what you want to do kung mag papa afecto ka.
I will believe in this Certification if it’s for Free but if there is a Fee I’ll assume that people who started this just wanted to make money out of the fast growing career in photography.
Peace! sorry but I have the right to say my opinion!
I think the pros are losing money to the amateurs!
it is only right that TESDA should do something like this.
It’s about time to set standards and choose quality over quantity.
Seeing people claim to be professional Photographers because of their expensive gadgets is getting more degrading.
The professionals are overshadowed by those who pretend to be professionals.
any updates for this Sir? how much the fees??
Salamat po
For I think for me the saying that some professional Photographers are loosing, because of the amateur’s maybe somewhat true, but I think it is up to the client who they want to hire. As there are really good amateur photographers or what we can call them as hobbyist who are really good that can sometimes live up to a professionals standard. Am sure certified photographer will charge more than the non-certified photographers. For me at the end of the day whether you are a pro or not its the picture quality, work ethic and Business ethic that will make a big factor and not the gears.
The truth is I don’t like this TESDA Certification as there is really no back support or basis to why it is really needed.
I read from one link that they will Charge but does not say how much
Again this is just an opinion and comment.
Do they also offer the vocational certification of Photography here in Cebu?
Tesda CEbu.
