The Sigma Corporation is pleased to announce the launch of the new, groundbreaking Sigma DP1 compact digital camera featuring a 14 megapixel FOVEON X3 direct image sensor (2652×1768×3 layers) as used in the Sigma SD14 digital SLR.

The DP1 takes advantage of the image sensor’s superior technology to capture accurate, full color image information.

Wow… cant wait to try this out.. might come in handy here in the Philippine especially that security guards, mall guards and the like are so paranoid one you flick out any DSLR out of your bag. Funny how having a good camera is partly a crime in this country… oh not if you are a foreigner.. Filipino Photographers are 2nd class citizens in their own country… we can take photographs of anything in the city unless we look like a foreigner or have loads of security around us to ward off those pesky security guards that treat any photographer with a dslr like a criminal trying to steal something.

going back to the Sigma DP1… hehehe sorry have so much angst against people that dont allow freedom of photographers to express their craft and talent… its a good camera and at 14 megapixel it cant kick any of the high end compact cameras available today.. but lets wait and see.. till they release test photos are they worth the price? are they good cameras that you can shoot from the hip? Id say we have to wait another 6 months before this camera reaches the mainstream retails channels in the Philippines.
