just want to add that the depicted merman also have rib cage. then it means it breaths air like any mamals and not like any fish. the fins on his head is i guess meant to conceal the ears LOL

The figure seems interesting… it has a resemblance with the mummified merman in Tokyo.
It was said that the art of creating faux mermaids was perfected by fishermen. It often involved stitching the heads and upper bodies of monkeys onto the bodies of fish, which is believed to have been created around 1810 by a Japanese fisherman.
You can check this link to see the photos http://www.pinktentacle.com/category/relic/
And besides if that merman died a long time maybe 2 or 3 weeks, should it have traces of dirt on its scale/body? If it was brought on shore by waves, should the grass underneath be dried as well? Or if there were times that high tide occurs, should the slime or shine of the scales be seen halfway of the figure? Or maybe the person who created this figure forgot to move the skeleton sideways maybe the seam line is meant to be put on the side of the figure lol…
Some people nowadays are crazy or maybe its a test for someone who needs a job in the movie industry. Well if this is even true they forgot to put the nose to it.

Oh yeah and the eyes are lovely… for it to look real dead, the iris should have been white as well… go to the market and look at dead fishies eyes. You’ll know what I mean lol… Mr. Administrator, I completely agree with you…
Why don’t you suggest for that dude to do an experiment and see if sea creatures turn up white by just leavin it under the sun lol…. :))

This email was sent to me a while back, and I honestly didn’t know whether to believe it or not. We must admit, there are some prttey crazy stuff showing up. Just recently new types of shrimps and crabs were found, so that’s nothing new. However, there is the ever ending “make believe” thing going on the internet. But, do I believe it…….No I don’t! Most of “Administrator’s” points could be supported with scientific facts. So is that of Bangis’. But we’ve seen alot of things, but, not “merman” maybe in time. I still think the comment between Administrator and Bangis, is funny! “Is that your costume?” Come now, guys be nice!
Oh By the way I’m a Biology Student and I’ve looked a lot into Marine Biology.

I dont know whether to believe it or not … maybe i will believe that creature if i can see it personally … if this is true then preserve it in the museum …
September 23rd, 2006 at 8:26 pm
yeah, i totally agree with you guys, i mean, fish don’t have eye lids and the “merman” does, eyelids are for keeping the dust out of our eyes but fish live underwater so they don’t need eye lids.

I want to stress that I am skeptical about this merman thing.
but I have to make some comments abt conclusioins reached here.
Okay, so the city skyline is not cebu but that’s not a big thing right? some pinoy wiseguy could have just copy pasted the original posting to his blog/post and changed the site to cebu.
and abt the analysis of the physical characteristics of the supposed merman. The observations were good and the conclusions logical but I’d say still not final. One only has to look at the account of how the first platypus (dead) specimen (as opposed to just pictures of a merman) was received in Europe. It was declared a hoax by the experts.
So I’d say the jury is still out on this one.
I am skeptical because of human nature.
A lot of things are wrong in the pictures, like where are the public gawkers, and think abt it. If you find a monster sprawled on a beach what would you do? run screaming for someone obviously. and if on the off chance that I’m a very collected and calm person with a high quality camera on hand, I’d be sure to put myself in one of the photos. I know nothing abt mermen or how they live or where they want to die but I do know how most people will react and do things.
December 23rd, 2006 at 12:15 am
I strongly believe in Mermaids, Troll & Bigfoot. But this specimen is good effort to fool people around the world. Can’t you guys think of any other better ideas to fool around. It’s the same old joke. Next time, GOOD LUCK.
January 2nd, 2007 at 6:27 am
If thats the ebay picture thingy, wouldn’t the merman be on sale at ebay? Though you make a lot of very good points.
February 5th, 2007 at 4:20 pm
the picture was kinda fake you know? duh?! eeeewww!! it is so dissgusting!! i strongly hate people lying……..dont fool us or else………….
February 5th, 2007 at 10:30 pm
I want to be a merman, but not that look… Probably a more handsome one like w/ a trident and stuff.
March 24th, 2007 at 11:05 am
I remember my Grandpa, mahilig pa naman siya magkuwento sa mga ganyan, hehe! May i ask may magic/power ba yang si Merman?buti di niya sinumpa yung nakahuli sa kanya, joke! This is not true.. mermaid / merman is a myth.. its based on imagination. well nice to hear kasi kahit papanu preserved parin cultural values ng mga Pilipino, were very fond in superstitious belief, bwehehe! You know guys we are living in a modern world. Human is so brilliant kaya lintian gid kung ano2 na ginapanghimo nanda sa kabuhi nila! sugid ta ka mo sa Lolo ko, gahimo himo lang kamo istorya, hehe! That’s the power of technologies! Pero i admit that there are so many things here on earth that’s really hard to explain.. face the fact that not at all are based on scientific explanation. hehehe… mwuaahhh!!!

the ears of the merman has a very close resemblance to that of jar jar binks of the star wars. is it a coincidence?

June 30th, 2007 at 3:45 pm

June 30th, 2007 at 3:49 pm
to see if its fake…you must cut it in half and look on the inside of it and smelly tuff will be dere….if its real you just wasted it by cutting it…u should preserve and put it in de museum or sumthing…=) by the way im just a small kiddy…i noe more den……welll…..all my fwens…=)

January 12th, 2008 at 11:14 pm
Clearly bogus! Whoever did this poor assemblage of his take on a merman and its “resting place” obviously is neither a naturalist nor a good artist. Should be the effort of more than one person. The photos alone are not convincing, how much more the real “specimen”? The site is poorly staged! LOL Please, there are digital softwares that can fool and entertain. But the mere situation of the scenario is amateurish, and so is the photography — too contrived! He or they should be having a blast with all the postings here for whatever their deed is worth. Try again! Indulge the jaded please!!! It should have been entertaining.
March 17th, 2008 at 2:02 am
This is so real! It does look fake in some ways but LOOK AT IT!(SMILE)

July 28th, 2008 at 3:50 pm
yah yah this merman is wanted criminal in china. he escaped the chinese PLA by wearing a jacket sewed like a fish and jumped to the south china sea. he thought he can fool the fishermen but the fishermen are fengshui superstitious. when they caught him on the net, the chinese fishermen put him in a pool of vinegar. when the wanted criminal started shouting in mandarin the chinese who were cantonese stuffed him with chicken heads. that’s how he died.

He he he. so to all scammers out there learn from this thread. NOW YOU KNOW WHAT A MERMAN IS NOT - 1)they must not have eyelids 2)their teeth must not be exagerrated( a small mouth with a teeth of an orca? duh dude!)3)the dorsal fins or any fins for that matter must support an efficient swimming style (do some research). 4)make the body covering convincing by darkening it a little bit to hide the seam. 5) no ebay photos please 6) put some slime, dirt and rot on the dead carcass to make it appear really dead, and yes lastly - 7)dead creatures attracts all kinds of insects - most of them flies. kindly invite them around.
Common guys(scammers, fakers, spoofers - or whatever you call it), entertain us and tickle our brains. If we can find some “creatures” like that - we’re going to have a more interesting thread than this one. If a blur photo of bigfoot could make it to discovery channel, why not this one.
August 9th, 2008 at 12:18 pm
I mean, If a blur photo of bigfoot could make it to discovery channel, why not of a merman.
